Economic talks 2024 in Neu-Ulm -“Kill Bureaucracy”: Reducing bureaucracy to achieve greater competitiveness”

The event had been arranged by Stadtentwicklungsverband Ulm/Neu-Ulm as part of its "Economic Talks" series. The event provided a platform for exchanging ideas on the challenges and opportunities of reducing bureaucracy and thus strengthening the region's competitiveness.

The event was opened by Mayor Katrin Albsteiger, Chairwoman of the StadtentwicklungsverbandShe emphasized the importance of efficient administrative structures for the economy and society.
In his subsequent keynote address, Walter Nussel, member of the Bavarian State Parliament and Commissioner for Bureaucracy Reduction of the Bavarian State Government, emphasized the urgency of the issue. Nussel explained that reducing bureaucracy can strengthen not only the economy but also citizens' trust in politics. He cited concrete examples from Bavaria where the reduction of unnecessary regulations has already yielded positive results.

Following this, leading representatives of the region discussed the challenges and opportunities of reducing bureaucracy in a panel discussion. In addition to Mayor Katrin Albsteiger and State Parliament Member Walter Nussel, Alexander Kulitz, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Regional Assembly, also participated. Neu-Ulm, as well as Martin Ansbacher, Mayor of the City of Ulm and Deputy Chairman of the Stadtentwicklungsverbandit, to participate in the round.
The discussion highlighted that in many areas – from founding new companies to approving construction projects – there is great potential for simplification, which can strengthen innovation and competitiveness. A key point of the discussion was that existing processes need to be critically examined and replaced with intelligent solutions.

Afterwards, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and share their own experiences. Business owners reported on specific bureaucratic challenges they faced.
